IMPORTANT MESSAGE - Unfortunately, due to the {ever worsening} weather forecast tomorrow afternoon Shakespeare in the Churchyard has been cancelled. This is the first time in 15 years we have had to cancel but 2-3 hours of thunderstorms and predicted heavy rainfall is too big a risk. Apologies to everyone. - Brian. ... See MoreSee Less

TLM GARDEN FORUM
The speaker, John Canning is the Chair of the Cleveland Bee Keepers Association. The association has seen an increase in members and it is highly recommended that anyone considering taking up beekeeping to attend their popular starter course.
John was very happy with the donation he got, in fact very pleased.
The talk covered the life cycle of bees, the different types of bees and their roles. The bees he brought in their box were very active, we could see the Queen going about her business and all the other bees in there. He talked about the threats to bees and what we can do to help them, also what not to do to the bees. Surprisingly 2 of the most helpful flowers for bees are dandelions and Himalayan balsam. They also love crocus and once one has had a bee pollinating it, the crocus flops. John also passed round a large piece of bees wax.
The reports we got after the talk were very positive and everyone enjoyed the honey tasting afterwards.
